Directions
-
Preheat the oven to 325°F. Lightly grease an 8-inch round baking pan with nonstick cooking spray, line the bottom with parchment paper, and grease the parchment.
-
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the granulated sugar and brown sugar, then whisk to combine.
-
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the milk, Kadoya roasted sesame oil, eggs, sour cream, orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla until smooth.
-
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the wet ingredients. Whisk just until smooth and no lumps remain. Be careful not to overmix.
-
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for about 40 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
-
Make the Honey Syrup: While the cake is baking, mix the honey with 1 tsp of warm water in a small bowl until smooth.
-
When the cake is done, leave it in the pan and poke small holes all over the surface with a toothpick. Drizzle the honey syrup evenly over the warm cake. Let it sit for 10–15 minutes until the syrup is absorbed. Then, carefully invert the cake onto a wire rack to cool completely.
-
Top the cooled cake with dollops of whipped cream and garnish with sesame seeds. Enjoy!
